Stanley Kubrick returns to the famous venue of the capital city, and here we give you the necessary information to attend in CDMX.
What is “A Clockwork Orange” about?
Directed by Stanley Kubrick, released in 1971, and based on the novel of the same name by Anthony Burgess, the story is set in a dystopian and violent futuristic society, focusing on Alex DeLarge, a young criminal and gang leader who delights in violence and chaos.
When Alex is arrested, he becomes the subject of a behavior modification experiment known as the “Ludovico Treatment,” which aims to eliminate his inclination towards violence through conditioned aversion.
The film explores themes such as free will, violence, freedom, and the nature of morality as it follows Alex’s shocking transformation and its consequences.
“A Clockwork Orange” is known for its distinctive visual style, Kubrick’s brilliant direction, Wendy Carlos’s innovative score, and Malcolm McDowell’s memorable performance as Alex.
The film generated controversy due to its graphic depiction of violence but has also earned masterpiece status for its provocative exploration of human nature and ethics in a dystopian context.
The film is considered an influential work and continues to be the subject of critical analysis and discussions about morality and social control.

Why was “A Clockwork Orange” censored in its release year?
The film was the subject of controversy and censorship in some countries, especially the United Kingdom. Stanley Kubrick decided to withdraw it from distribution after reports emerged of violent behavior that was supposedly inspired by the film.
It was linked to cases of imitation violence, which led Kubrick to fear retaliation and ethical questions. This situation contributed to the public perception of the film as controversial.
Censorship was also due to the graphic depiction of violence and explicit sexuality in the film, especially in scenes such as the famous “Ludovico Treatment” sequence.
The intensity and graphic nature of these scenes sparked censorship in several countries and, in some cases, led to cuts or edits to fit local rating standards and cultural sensitivities.
Despite the initial censorship, over time, the film has been reevaluated and recognized as a cinematic masterpiece, but its initial release was marked by controversy and censorship.
