Sometimes, some of the dreams that we most long for and that matter most to us take longer to wait than we could imagine. Despite everything, when these are fulfilled, the wait gives them a sweeter taste, an even greater feeling of satisfaction.

If not, tell Anthony Hopkins, legendary protagonist of ‘The Silence of the Lambs‘, who saw one of his own come true, half a century after conceiving it.

What was one of Hopkins’ great passions? When he was only 27 years old, at the beginning of the 60s (the veteran actor has been around this world for more than eight decades), he composed a waltz.

However, he never dared to set it to music. Thanks to the Dutchman André Rieu, he was able to see his scores come to life, in a wonderful concert in Vienna in 2013.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I have a surprise for you,” AndrĂ© announced to the audience, accompanied by his Johann Strauss Orchestra.

“And I have to say it was a surprise to me, too.”

“A few months ago, I received a call at my office in New York. They told me that they had someone on the phone who wanted to talk to me.

He was a big fan and had composed a Waltz and insisted that I play it with my orchestra,” he continued, the director.

“I get calls like this every day. But when I heard the person’s name, I almost fainted. A world-famous actor, one of the biggest stars in Hollywood…”

As Rieu explained, long before Hopkins began to dedicate himself to the profession that would accompany him throughout his life, the man had been a musician.

“He composed this waltz on paper and it has never been heard. He never did it, he was very scared.”

Hopkins saw the conductor on television and knew then that he was the one to bring his old creation to life. “We spoke on the phone. He is extremely kind.

I told him, ‘send me the notes.’ So, he did, and we recorded the Waltz. I can tell you that it is wonderful. Exciting, romantic, passionate, filmic,” Rieu continued.

“I am very proud that we are able to perform this Waltz in Vienna for the first time. And even prouder that this Hollywood star has flown from Los Angeles to join us tonight. A big round of applause for: Sir Anthony Hopkins.”

Moments later, the beautiful melody began to play, and you could see how a wave of emotions began to emerge on the face of the actor, who was listening attentively to his own work surrounded by the rest of the spectators’ present.

At the end, the spectators stood up and paid tribute to the composer, who thanked them for their love.
