Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is already available in movie theaters but the box office is not what everyone expected.
Through media such as Discussing Film it is reported that the launch numbers of the sequel are so low that it already has one of the worst premieres of the entire DCEU.
In fact, the collection is lower than the initial projections, leaving it very bad for the Aquaman sequel on the big DC map for the big screen.
According to official figures, Wonder Woman 1984 has the worst premiere of the DCEU with US $16 million in revenue locally (United States and Canada); Blue Beetle follows with US $25 million; after The Suicide Squad with US $26 million.
Here comes Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom with its US$29 million during the first weekend, a lower number than the US$30 million or US$45 million that had been estimated. The US $166 million of Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice is very far away, achieved in 2016, the highest grossing premiere of the entire DCEU.
Jason Momoa ‘s performance as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) has been generally well received by critics and audiences alike.
Before his debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Aquaman wasn’t as well-known as some of the other superheroes, but Momoa’s charismatic presence and compelling performance gave the character a fresh new dimension.
The representation of him in Justice League and his solo film, Aquaman, consolidated the status of the underwater hero as one of the pillars of the DCEU.
Jason Momo has received praise for his modern, rebellious approach to the character, moving away from more traditional comic book representations.
Audiences have responded positively to his performance, appreciating the combination of humor, action and charisma he brings to the role.
The Aquaman movie was a commercial success and helped change the perception of the character, making him one of the most beloved icons of the big-screen superhero universe.
The show must go on
Unfortunately, the years were not kind to the DCEU in general. The saga has faced criticism since its first installments for various reasons.
A very common one has been directed towards the lack of cohesion and consistent narrative direction compared to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Some DCEU films have been perceived as uneven in tone and style, leading to a sense of lack of uniformity in the overall vision of the shared universe.
Additionally, creative decision-making has been questioned, such as reinterpretations of classic characters and plots that some consider too dark or deviating from traditional comic book representations.
Another point of criticism has been the acceleration in the introduction of characters and the construction of the shared universe, especially evident in the films with Justice League characters.
This rapid expansion of the cast and plot left some viewers feeling like the franchise was rushing its development rather than taking the time to build a solid foundation.
Despite these criticisms, the DCEU has undergone adjustments and achieved individual successes, which have contributed to a more positive perception on the franchise in more recent stages.
Unfortunately, Aquaman 2 represents the end of the DCEU and the beginning of a new era with James Gunn as president and shaper of DC Studios and its next films.
The first film in the new DC saga on the big screen will be Superman: Legacy, a total reboot of the series and the opportunity to meet new faces and characters.
