The last few years have been chaotic for many Hollywood studios. The pandemic brought new distribution and consumption practices to the table that forced industry executives to go blind and test the waters in the best way possible. Many great premieres ended up on streaming platforms due to the global confinement, however, the mouse company announced an unmissable initiative regarding some of its animated productions.
According to the company, and a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Luca , Red and Soul will have screenings in theaters in 2024, with the aim of presenting it to the public “as they deserve.” The COVID-19 pandemic made theatrical releases impossible due to restrictions to contain the spread of the virus. With social distancing measures, temporary movie theater closures, and concerns about public safety, audiences were reluctant to congregate in enclosed spaces like movie theaters.
This generated a significant decrease in attendance at film screenings, negatively affecting the profitability of productions and the economic viability of cinemas. Faced with this scenario, film studios opted for alternative strategies, such as delaying releases, releasing films directly on online streaming platforms or using simultaneous release models in theaters and streaming services to adapt to the new conditions imposed by the pandemic.
At the moment there are no defined dates for the release of each film, but at least we know that all three will have the opportunity to reach theaters and dazzle fans on the big screen. It is clear that Disney and Pixar worked hard in the development of these projects and want to see them shine in the largest complexes around the world. Will we see an interesting increase in their respective box offices?
