‘Doctor Who’ actor Richard Franklin (87) has died – Richard Franklin, who rose to fame for his roles in popular television series such as Doctor Who and Emmerdale, died on Christmas Day at the age of 87.

The death was confirmed by Liam Rudden, a close friend of the actor.
“It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Franklin has asked me to share the news of his passing,” he said on X/Twitter on Monday. “Richard passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Details about the funeral will be shared here as they are announced. Sleep well Richard,” Rudden’s message continues.
Career
In 1969, Franklin made his breakthrough with his role as Joe Townsend in the British series Crossroads.
Two years later he made his appearance in Doctor Who , playing the role of Mike Yates.
At the time, Jon Pertwee was shown as the third Doctor. Over the next few years, Richard Franklin repeatedly took on the role of his Doctor Who character.
It is worth mentioning that the actor also wrote a book, entitled The Killing Stone, in which Mike Yates played the lead role.
The actor also starred in titles such as Doctors (1970), Little Women (1970) and The Pathfinders (1973).
Additionally, Franklin made his appearance on the big screen, with a role in the Star Wars film Rogue One (2016).
Ncuti Gatwa
The popular British series Doctor Who will be continued this spring with Ncuti Gatwa in the role of the fifteenth Doctor, also known as Time Lord.
Gatwa makes history as the first black actor to portray this time traveler.
He shared his excitement about the role in an interview with BBC News, saying: “It feels great because it’s really an honour. This role is iconic.”
Gatwa, who rose to fame for his role in Sex Education, takes over the role from Jodie Whittaker after a five-year stint.
