Donald Glover is making his debut in ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith,’ a series that he created with Francesca Sloane and stars in with Maya Erskine, arrived on Prime Video on February 2.
As part of the promotional campaign, both actors have undergone Vanity Fair’s lie detector test, and Erskine had to ask Glover if his cameo in ‘Spider-Man: Crossing the Multiverse‘ was “Sony’s way of apologizing for not choosing him to play Spider-Man.”
And it turns out that in 2012 he himself asked to be considered to play Peter Parker in the film that would end up starring Andrew Garfield.
Referring to this failure, Glover appeared in the second season of ‘Community‘ wearing Spider-Man pajamas, and this image, together with the election of Barack Obama as president of the United States, inspired Brian Michael Bendis to create the character of Miles Morales, the African-American Spider-Man.
Glover lent his voice to Morales in the series ‘Ultimate Spider-Man: Web of Warriors,’ and in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ he appeared playing Aaron Davis, the Marauder, and Miles’ uncle, or so it was discovered in a scene after-credits removed.
To top things off, Glover appears in live action, making a cameo in ‘Spider-Man: Crossing the Multiverse‘ with the purple and black Marauder suit, acting as a link between Tom Holland’s universe and the animated version.
Now that we have the context, here is what he answered to Erskine’s question:
“No, I believe it didn’t even cross their minds.
I think it’s definitely likely that they’ll make a live-action Miles Morales movie, and I think they might be interested in me playing the Marauder. I’m too old to play Spider-Man anymore.
It would only be interesting if he died or something.”
The Marauder is one of Spider-Man’s enemies, and his powers, such as his claws and his ability to fire powerful blasts of air, come from his suit. In ‘Crossing the Multiverse‘ and its sequels, he is voiced by Mahershala Ali and Jharrel Jerome in their different versions.
There are alternatives.
Although Glover is not going to fulfill his dream of giving life to Peter Parker, the actor will star for Sony in a film about Hypno-Hustler within this series of productions with Spider-Man characters that are not directly connected to Spider-Man, such as ‘Madame Web,’ ‘Venom,’ or ‘Kraven The Hunter.
