Tonight Succession made history at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles after taking the coveted award for Best Drama Series with its impeccable final season that had us on the edge of our seats for 10 weeks.
The series, created by Jesse Armstrong, has been dedicated to winning awards since its first season and with this victory (its third consecutive in the same category) it has secured its place on prestigious television alongside shows like The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and The Wire.
In this edition of the Emmy, Succession received a total of 27 nominations, including Best Actor and Lead Actress (Drama), Best Direction (Drama) and Best Screenplay (Drama).
In the Best Series category, HBO’s satire did not have an easy time competing with high-quality novel proposals such as House of the Dragon and The Last of Us, or established programs such as Better Call Saul, The Crown and The White Lotus.
Also on the list of nominees was Andor and Yellowjackets, which, although notable in their narrative and performances, it was difficult for them to stand up to the titans they had as rivals.
What is the fourth season of Succession about?
In this fourth season, the sale of the media conglomerate Waystar Royco to technological visionary Lukas Matsson ( Alexander SkarsgÄrd ) is getting closer and closer.
The prospect of this seismic sale causes existential angst and family division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will be like once the deal is complete. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs a future in which their cultural and political clout will be severely reduced.
The recurring cast of Succession returns for this latest chapter and includes Brian Cox , Jeremy Strong , Sarah Snook , Kieran Culkin , Alan Ruck , Matthew Macfadyen, among others.
The Roy dynasty’s passage through this year’s awards season has been outstanding, taking home four awards at the Golden Globes last week: one for Best Television Series (Drama) and the rest awarded to Sarah Snook , Kieran Culkin and Matthew Macfadyen for his brilliant performance in this last part of the show.
In this fourth episode, each one had their opportunity to show what they are made of and they gave us moving, tense and uncomfortable moments alike, because if there is something that Succession knew how to maintain until the final minute, it was that perfect balance between drama and capable comedy. to provoke emotional whiplash in the viewer.
This season was full of highlights, but without a doubt the third episode titled â Connor’s Wedding â stands out from the rest and will go down in history as a master class in directing, writing and acting.
By unexpectedly eliminating one of its key pieces on the board, Succession left us heartbroken, and with it the conversation on social networks during the Sunday of the broadcast and the following Monday became truly passionate, with many of the viewers ensuring that â history had been made .â
The episode dedicated to said character’s funeral was also a powerful testament to the talent involved in front of and behind the camera of Succession , and gave us a series of heartbreaking moments alongside the Roy brothers, who left their masks off for a moment and They appeared more vulnerable than ever.
By the time we reached the final episode, it was impossible not to have taken sides with one of the characters and regardless of who your favorite successor was, the series subverted all expectations and left us with one of the most bittersweet endings in the history of television.
It was a round and unbeatable ending, where each character ended up exactly where their actions took them, for better or worse; where there was tragedy for some but hope for others; where dreams were lost but new ones were founded; where brotherhoods were broken but alliances were formed; and where it was not the most agile viper in the nest that won, but the most manipulable one.
In the end, Succession entered that small group of series that knew how to say goodbye in their best moment before time extinguished them, and in a relatively short time built a legacy that will last forever.
The years will continue to pass and the public will not erase from their minds the great scenes that the program left, just as they will not be able to stop thinking about Kendall’s rap, the â fuck off! â from Logan or Tom’s awkward tantrums. See you always Roy family!
