The end of the yearā€“2023ā€“ brought with it a double program with two of the most celebrated Japanese films of these twelve months: El NiƱo y La Garza – 100 and Godzilla: Minus One.

The second feature film, the most recent installment of the most famous radioactive reptile in cinema, has been an international phenomenon, but will there be a sequel? This is what we know about the franchise.

Should we wait for the Godzilla sequel?

In an interview with GQ Japan, Minami Ichikawa, producer and executive of The Toho Company, spoke about the challenge of making Godzilla Minus One , a delivery worthy of the furor that also caused Shin Godzilla in the middle of the last decade. Although he says that they undoubtedly have plans to continue producing titles about the reptile, but we will have to be patient because they are not going to rush just to have a box office success:

However, I don’t feel the need to rush to the next live-action movie. Good films are due to quality. We want great ideas, a great script, a talented director and the right cast to work on it. Godzilla deserves that level.ā€

Directed by Takashi Yamazaki , Godzilla: Minus One is the tale of Koichi, a World War II veteran with post-traumatic stress who barely survives a first encounter with the kaiju, only to have to survive him once again when He arrives at the city of Ginza, ready to destroy it.

The film is set in the middle of the last century and sees a group of civilians attempt to stop the creature.

Thematically, the protagonist must deal with his survivor’s guilt and find a reason to keep going in the face of the looming threat of Godzilla.

Godzilla: Minus One is now in theaters. And it is a great option to close 2023 or start 2024 in theaters, especially if action is what you like.
