Golden Globes 2024: Jo Koy regrets joke about Taylor Swift – The ceremony did not have the expected impact and the opening of the show raised several eyebrows inside and outside the venue.

Driving is not easy, especially when your job is to make fun of, or make laugh at, celebrities who often take themselves very seriously.
Host Jo Koy learned that the hard way after failing during his opening monologue at the 2024 Golden Globes and, particularly, after being criticized for a joke, actually quite harmless, about Taylor Swift ‘s presence at the awards ceremony.
According to Variety, comedian Jo Koy admitted to feeling sad and disappointed by the boo he received at his Golden Globes opening night.
He doesn’t regret taking the job, and says he learned a lot about the difference between hosting and stand-up. He did regret that his joke about Taylor Swift and the NFL failed to land the way he would have liked. These were his comments:
“It’s a difficult job, I’m not going to lie. I love the art of stand-up. It was an opportunity that came to me, but driving is a beast. That’s all. I think Taylor fell flat, it was a weird joke. It was more about the NFL, I was trying to make fun of the NFL for using shots and how the Globes didn’t have to do that. It was more of a blow to the NFL, but it didn’t turn out that way.”
Koy is referring to a joke in which he said there were more shots of Swift at football games than at the Golden Globes.
This is in reference to the furor that the singer has caused by appearing at the games of her boyfriend, player Travis Kelce. During the ceremony, the show cut to her, who didn’t laugh and took a sip of her drink to get through the awkward moment, which, of course, went viral.
The comedian admitted, when he heard boos from the audience, that he hadn’t had enough time to prepare for his set.
“I only scheduled work 10 days ago, do you want a perfect monologue?” he commented.
He also tried to dilute the audience’s harshness by telling them that he hadn’t written all the jokes, only the ones that made them laugh. But even on social media people commented on the bad job he ended up doing.
Swift was at the ceremony because she was one of the favorites to win a new category for Film and Box Office Achievement.
She was nominated for the recording of her concert De ella Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which surprised by surpassing the mark of hundreds of millions raised in the United States.
The premiere gave cinemas a break during the fall in the face of a deserted billboard due to delays caused by the actors’ strike.
However, the winner of this new award turned out to be Barbie, the highest-grossing film of 2023 and the big loser of the Golden Globes, because, although it was the most nominated of the night, it only won that recognition and Best Song original.
Can the ceremony be rescheduled for next year? They have twelve months to plan something better and to schedule someone with more advance notice and driving experience.
