With the last of the three Star Wars trilogies concluded, and with the Disney+ platform already consolidated, the company continues planning an ambitious release schedule for an endless franchise. Settled in the world of series thanks to hits like ‘ The Mandalorian ‘, ‘ Andor ‘ and ‘ Ahsoka ‘, trips to distant galaxies continue to be the order of the day while the big screen rests for a few years.
And it was necessary because, although it is impossible not to point out the nostalgic successes of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ (JJ Abrams, 2015) and the wonderful sense of wonder of ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ (Rian Johnson, 2017), the new film trilogy, the first directed by Disney, ended up creating a painful schism in the fandom that was closed with the decaffeinated ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ (JJ Abrams, 2019).
The residue of that makes us forget everything positive that this new saga offered us, including an unparalleled protagonist, a worthy adventure companion and an antagonist as complex as the saga deserved.
“Someone reminds me every day,” explains Adam Driver (via The Hollywood Reporter ) when told about the murder of Han Solo at the hands of his character, Kylo Ren. “Not every day, but yeah. It used to be more, but now probably once a month someone lets me know that I killed Han Solo .”
“Harrison was so generous and contemplative, and for me it was a great moment on set, even though it was his death,” he says of his meeting with Harrison Ford in a scene that, more than “hard,” he remembers as “emotional.”
I started to get dizzy when the moment arrived ,” the actor admitted to GQ in 2017, explaining how he faced that moment the first time he saw ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ with an audience. “The people behind me, when it started, were like: ‘Oh my God. Oh my God. It’s happening.’ At that moment I thought I was going to throw up. I was holding my wife’s hand, and she told me: ‘ You’re very cold. Are you okay?’ “And I knew what was going to happen. I killed Harrison and I didn’t know how that audience of 2,000 people was going to react.”
Driver, which can be enjoyed in the Netflix film catalog in Noah Baumbach’s gems ‘Marriage Story’ (2019) and ‘Background Noise’ (2022), will be released under the direction of Michael Mann with the imminent ‘ Ferrari ‘, released in theaters on February 9, and will repeat with ‘Heat 2’ (2024).
