Yes, chef! A statuette on the way. As the campaigns pointed out, Jeremy Allen White turned out to be the winner of Best Actor in a Comedy Series for The Bear at the 2023 Emmys.

The successful FX series, which can be seen through Star Plus, has sneaked into the awards season since the beginning of last year, but it was only in this edition of the Television Academy Awards that he was eligible to compete.

What award did Jeremy Allen White win at the 2023 Emmys?

Jeremy Allen White ‘s victory at the 2023 Emmys was imminent.

Although he was competing with the favorite of years past, Jason Sudeikis for the endearing ‘Ted Lasso,’ and with the possible redemption of the Academy after years of snubs to Bill Hader for ‘Barry,’ everything indicates that ‘The Bear’ is the new weakness of the industry.

This is the first Emmy for the performer, who originally became famous for the series Skins.

In The Bear, White plays Carmy, a celebrity chef who returns to his native Chicago to take over his brother’s restaurant after his death.

The faltering business, the chaotic kitchen, and his tense relationships with his family are elements that lend themselves both to funny scenes (hence the nomination in the comedy category) but also to impeccable dramatic sequences of great weight.

The show is really an allegory of the importance of mental health and a healthy grieving process.

That The Bear is a new Emmy darling is an interesting twist. Since the pandemic, perhaps the most important collective trauma in recent years, the comedy category has been dominated by much more comforting and sweet stories.

First with the farewell awards for the cast and creators of the sitcom Schitt’s Creek and then with the victory of the Pambolero Ted Lasso.

Although there are very funny moments in this show, some of which are even black humor (we’re talking about Richie’s stabbing, for example), there is some confusion, among the press and the audience that follows the show, about why it is opted for that categorization.

No one who suffered from that impressively flat episode sequence towards the end of the first season would be quick to call the show a comedy.

And things get denser. Following its rapid word-of-mouth success, The Bear was renewed for a second season that debuted last year (and will be eligible for the next edition of the Emmys).

The new episodes doubled down on topics about mental health. Particularly in a Christmas episode that added more context to why Carmen’s family is so chaotic.

Both seasons of The Bear are now available on Star Plus. The series was renewed again for a third installment that was delayed by the actors and writers’ strikes in 2023.
