Lil Nas X addresses controversy over ‘J Christ’ video, clarifies artistic intent – At the end of last year, Lil Nas released the first single from the long-awaited musical stage titled ‘J Christ’ and attached with it a video clip where he plays various biblical figures, including Noah and Jesus Christ.

In a matter of hours he managed to cause a great stir and once again enrage the most conservative Christian groups because in the video he staged the crucifixion of Jesus Christ with him as the protagonist.

Lil Nas knew that it would cause some controversy, but he never imagined that the video clip would be interpreted as a lack of respect or an attack on the Christian faith.

The artist has published a video on Instagram to appease his critics by explaining that his intention was to announce his “resurrection” – artistic, it is understood – using Jesus Christ as a metaphor.

“I wanted, not necessarily to apologize, but I did want to explain what I think and what I have been thinking over the last week,” he said. “This wasn’t a put-down or a diss to Christians. It wasn’t my intention. It’s me literally saying, ‘Oh, I’m back. I’m back like Jesus.’ That was it.”

This latest controversy has caught Lil Nas completely by surprise, because it seemed to him that his message had been made clear.

In this last video clip he does not appear dancing with the devil, as he did in his single ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name), and I did not see how his intentions could be misinterpreted.

I am not an evil demon who tries to destroy everyone’s values,” he clarified. “I’m not like that. And with the video there is no lack of respect.”

In any case, the singer believes that anything he says or does is magnified and judged too harshly due to the reputation as a provocateur that precedes him, and he hopes that the public will sooner or later learn to judge his art for what it is: a mere way of expressing oneself.
