Prominent actress Mia Goth is embroiled in a legal scandal after being sued by extra James Hunter, who claims to have been the victim of assault during the filming of the A24 sequel, MaXXXine.
The film is directed by Ti West and starring Goth. It is not clear to what extent it could affect the actress’s career, but scandals are not common for the British actress.
MaXXXine and the X trilogy
The X Trilogy, comprised of the films starring the talented Mia Goth, the films explore the lives of Maxine Minx and Pearl, seemingly opposite but intrinsically connected characters.
In X, set in 1979, Maxine, played by Goth, embarks on a film project that mixes horror and adult films. The film highlights the innovation and struggle for fame in a specific era of the entertainment industry.
The plot takes place in a remote cabin, where aspirations collide with reality, triggering a series of violent events.
The prequel, Pearl , moves the action to 1918 and features a young Pearl, eager to achieve fame in the silent film era. Through her truncated aspirations and dark desires, the film explores themes of sacrifice and obsession, revealing the motivations behind Pearl’s apparent madness.
The anticipated MaXXXine follows Maxine after surviving the massacre, seeking fame in 1980s Los Angeles. This latest installment promises to close out the trilogy with a focus on survival and the search for success in an unforgiving industry.
Why was Mia Goth sued?
The lawsuit filed this Friday details that James Hunter suffered a concussion as a result of Goth intentionally kicking him in the head during a scene in April of last year.
Hunter was hired to play the role of “Dead Parishioner” for three days of filming.
According to Hunter (via Variety ), the first night of filming was grueling, as he lay on the floor covered in fake blood for several hours, facing uncomfortable conditions with the presence of ants and mosquitoes.
The scene called for Goth to run past him, look at him, and continue running.
The situation got complicated when, in the fourth take, Goth almost stepped on him.
Hunter expressed his discomfort to the second assistant director, who conveyed the concern to Goth.
However, in the next take, according to the lawsuit, Goth deliberately kicked her in the head with his boot.
After the scene ended, Hunter claims that Goth entered the bathroom where he was and “ridiculed, mocked, and belittled him,” daring him to do something about it.
Hunter experienced a headache, exacerbated by fake blood that had dried on his gown, causing him discomfort when removing it, the lawsuit details.
When he was going home, he was feeling dizzy forcing him to stop twice.
The next day, the casting agency informed him that the production did not require his services for the remaining two days.
The lawsuit, filed by Hunter’s attorney, accuses Mia Goth of assault and also includes a wrongful termination claim against A24, Mia Goth and Ti West, the film’s director.
This incident not only raises questions about working conditions in the film industry, but also highlights the responsibility of film studios to ensure a safe environment on set.
Goth and the other defendants have not yet responded publicly to these accusations, leaving the development of this legal case pending that could have repercussions on the reputation of the actress and the production of MaXXXine.
