Career
Shortly after graduating high school, James attended a professional wrestling school in Washington D.C. at the suggestion of a friend, as she had been a fan of professional wrestling since she was little.
She made her professional debut on the independent circuit on August 28, 1999, as a sideman for KYDA Pro Wrestling under the name Alexis Laree. She then went on to manage several male wrestlers before wrestling in her first match, a mixed tag team match with Jake Damian against American Mike Brown and Candie.
She trained to improve her wrestling skills by attending training camps such as the Funking Conservatory and the Extreme Championship Wrestling dojo. Due to the low pay of independent shows, James also supplemented her income by working as a waitress at an Olive Garden and posing nude for fetish magazines such as “Leg Show” and “Naughty Neighbors.”
In 2002, James made her debut in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) as a participant in the lingerie battle royal. She became a prominent figure by 2003. She earned the distinction of being the pioneer woman to participate in a Clockwork Orange House of Fun match, which is one of TNA’s signature bouts.
Later in 2003, James signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). WWE directed her to undergo training at Ohio Valley Wrestling. She began making television appearances for OVW in 2004 and competed in several tag matches throughout the year.

James continued to appear with Stratus over the next year, and their story eventually developed into a rivalry. The rivalry came to an end on a June 2006 episode of “Raw” when James defeated Stratus in a Women’s Championship match.
During the following years, James had several feuds with other wrestlers such as Lita, Victoria, and Melina. During this time, James was in contention for the Women’s Championship on several occasions, winning it multiple times.
In 2009, she began appearing on “SmackDown” for the first time in her career. She continued to appear on the show for the next few years.
From 2010 to 2016, James returned to the independent wrestling circuit as part of the World Wrestling Council. She did not return to WWE until 2016 when she joined WWE’s developmental brand, “NXT.”
