Mr. and Mrs. Smith: Eiza González, Alexander Skarsgard join remake series – the actors are going to star in the adaptation of the popular film about a couple of hitmen.

If you are very young, you may not remember that at the beginning of the millennium Hollywood took advantage of the accentuated beauty of two of its most prominent stars, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, for an action-romance film called Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
Although it was not the favorite of critics, it made a significant sum at the box office and that led Prime Video to develop a remake series to which Eiza González and Alexander Skarsgård are now joining.
According to Variety , the Mr. and Mrs. Smith series will feature guest appearances from a group of Hollywood darlings, among whom the Mexican Eiza González, Alexander Skarsgard, Sarah Paulson and Ron Perlman stand out .
These names are the most recent to join the list that will make up the cast of the show, which stars Danny Glover , creator of the reboot, and Maya Erskine as the titular characters.
What is the Mr. and Mrs. Smith series about?
What is known about the series is that, unlike the original, it will not follow a married couple but will begin with both of them teaming up and in each episode they will be assigned a joint job that they must complete and through which they will establish a romantic relationship.
Previously, three-time Emmy-winning screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Bridge was set to co-create the show, but she departed due to creative differences.
In fact, the series was originally going to premiere last month, but was delayed due to the Hollywood strikes of actors and writers and its release was rescheduled for early 2024.
The first preview revealed a darker tone for certain action moments, but with room for the type of comedy that has characterized Glover’s work in, for example, his acclaimed show Atlanta.
As for González, this is a more Hollywood title in which the Mexican participates. Although she has mostly collaborated with supporting roles, the performer has managed to position herself very well in that industry and has been directed by important names in the industry.
More recently we saw her in Ambulance Michael Bay ‘s most recent film with Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
In fact, she and Skarsgard appeared together in Godzilla vs. Kong. Similarly, this Swedish actor has managed to become a favorite Hollywood villain.
This year we saw him, for example, as the eccentric millionaire who was about to buy an important part of the Succession brothers’ company and the previous year he was the protagonist of the historical Viking epic, The Man in the North, the latest from Robert Eggers.
Will the new version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith be able to win over the public? With a release date for February 2 on Prime Video, there’s very little left to find out.
Before Valentine’s Day, and as one of the first action programs of the year, we will have to see if it achieves the necessary impact to hook audiences. The possibilities, for the moment, are on your side.
