Oppenheimer was released during the summer of last year and continues to cause high impressions among critics and social networks.
Florence Pugh recently interviewed IndieWire and talked about a particular anecdote that occurred on the filming set: one of the cameras broke during the sexual scene with Cillian Murphy, leading to curious moments in the filming.
What character does Florence Pugh play in Oppenheimer?
In the film, Florence is Jean Tatlock, an American psychiatrist and poet born in 1910 and died in 1944.
She was associated with the Communist Party and had a romantic relationship with physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who later led the Manhattan Project during World War II.
Although her life and contributions were significant, attention to Tatlock has increased due to her connection to Oppenheimer and her involvement in academic and political circles during a crucial period in 20th-century history.
“When the camera broke we were in the middle of sex scene. Nobody knows, but that’s how it was. Our camera broke when we were both naked! Cameras were limited there and the time was not ideal.
And a camera was in the shop being repaired, and Chris [Nolan] turned and asked someone, ‘Where’s the other camera?’ The camera was in the workshop: bad news for the person who broke the news.”
Florence, instead of being self-conscious or having a bad time, was quite professional, like the rest of her colleagues. The actress explains that she even tried to learn about camera failures and repairs at the time, applauding her staff for their great work:
Tatlock is depicted as a tormented woman in Oppenheimer , someone who has extramarital affairs with Oppenheimer and ends her life very soon.
The film presents some sexual scenes between Pugh and Murphy, and now the actress talks about that moment of filming in which the camera broke, leaving the actors naked:
“We were finding ways to fix the camera. So Cillian and I were in this room together, it’s a closed set, so we were both holding our bodies.
This camera surgeon walked into the room, started working on it, and I thought, ‘Well, this is my time to learn. So tell me, what’s wrong with this camera?
Just create your moments. And I’m like, ‘What’s going on with the shutter here, dude?’ He explains, and indeed Chris comes in and says that the light is coming in wrong.
It’s just amazing that everyone on this set was so knowledgeable and prepared to make this kind of movie, that there wasn’t a dull moment.”
How many Oscars is Oppenheimer nominated for?
Nolan is impressed with Oppenheimer ‘s success, and rightly so.
The film was nominated in the categories of Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Soundtrack, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Makeup and hairstyle, Best Editing and Best Sound, giving way to a total of 13 nominations.
In which ones will we see her succeed?
