Scary at Christmas: Five horror films during Christmas
Scary at Christmas: Five horror films during Christmas – Christmas is of course a time of love, friendship and being together. Anyone who jumps on the couch at Christmas to watch a movie will soon opt for the more sappy title.

But if you want to be horrified, you can also go for a horror movie.
Here are five (comic) horror titles that take place during Christmas.
The story takes place in a quiet American suburb. It is evening, it is snowing heavily and Christmas is approaching. Deandra and Robert Lerner (Madsen and Warburton) have hired Ashley (DeJonge) as a babysitter to watch their 12-year-old son (Miller).
She will have to protect the boy when a group of strangers try to break into the house. Within a short time, Ashley discovers that this is not just a normal home invasion.
Directed by: Chris Peckover
Starring: Levi Miller , Olivia DeJonge and Virginia Madsen
I like these kinds of horror films. A new series of horror films with a little twist and some humor and especially colorful figures, even though it remains low budget.
Another film with a babysitter, they have a hard time in the genre. Despite the many clichés, the film still makes something new, which is certainly not evident in the genre.
A man is looking for a gift for his son and finds a cute little animal in Chinatown. However, there are three rules he must follow: no water, no food after midnight and no bright lights.
However, when the creature starts breeding green Gremlins because his son is not paying close attention, all hell breaks loose.
Directed by: Joe Dante
Starring: Zach Galligan , Phoebe Cates and Hoyt Axton
Christmas classic. This horror classic from the Spielberg stable often manages to strike the right comic chord and can at least be described as atmospheric.
The power lies mainly in the mysterious and endearing creature that quickly causes problems in a peaceful town around Christmas time. Towards the end the film changes tone quite a bit, which is never disturbing.
Dante presented the world with an extremely successful cinema hit, which still appears to be worth seeing today. Good.
Jack Skellington, Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, is tired of doing the same thing every year on Halloween.
One day he walks into Christmas Town and is so impressed by the idea of Christmas that he convinces his dark fellow villagers from Halloween Town to abolish Halloween and take over Christmas from Sandy Claws.
Directed by: Henry Selick
Starring: Chris Sarandon , Danny Elfman and Catherine O’Hara
A true animated classic, also as a musical with all those unforgettable songs, a film that you can watch again and again without being bored for a moment.
I also think that the simplicity of the story should not be seen as a negative, after all it is a kind of dark fairy tale and that’s how it works perfectly. Not every film has to have a deep story, if the film has enough to offer. Atmosphere, design, music, songs, characters: all unforgettable!
A group of hardline mercenaries then attack the mansion. It’s up to a disillusioned Santa Claus (David Harbour) to take down these criminals.
Directed by: Tommy Wirkola
Starring: John Leguizamo, David Harbour and Alex Hassell
Great fun. Sometimes the humor is a bit too simple and the film lacks the truly cynical element of, for example, Bad Santa, but it is precisely by turning this into a Christmas film with all the sweetness, clichés and family happiness, but mixed with a slasher film, that the film is very enjoyable at times.
The acting varies and Leguizamo has too typical a head for the villain. He just annoys me a bit. A few moments stand out, especially when Bryan Adams sounds from the speakers.
When his dysfunctional family spends the holidays arguing, young Max is disappointed and decides to turn his back on Christmas.
What he does not know, however, is that he has managed to summon the ancient entity Krampus, a demonic being that punishes unbelievers around Christmas. All hell breaks loose when it targets the family and the torn family is forced to band together to survive.
Directed by: Michael Dougherty
Starring: Adam Scott , Toni Collette and Emjay Anthony
Fun and surprisingly creepy horror movie for the whole family, set around Christmas.
The film has just the right balance between humor, drama and creepy situations, greatly helped by the excellent and sympathetic cast.
Perhaps a bit too thin in terms of plot and there are no real horrors (after all, it is a family film), but the film is exciting and visually impressive, with atmospheric camera work and excellent special effects. Makes a nice double bill for Christmas with Gremlins!
