Star Wars announces new movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu – The Disney Plus series revitalized interest in Star Wars by stripping the plot of unnecessary complexities and returning to the roots of the space western.

The Star Wars universe expands once again to the big screen with the announcement of a new film directed by Jon Favreau, creator of the hit Disney+ series, The Mandalorian.
The film will be titled The Mandalorian & Grogu and will go into production later this year, marking the return of one of the most endearing duos in the galaxy.
The plot of the film will focus on the series’ charismatic bounty hunter, played by Pedro Pascal, and his unmistakable apprentice, Grogu, affectionately known as Baby Yoda.
Although it has not yet been revealed where in the series’ timeline the film will be set, fans can expect an epic adventure that is sure to expand the rich universe created by George Lucas.
Jon Favreau, who has proven his mastery at telling stories set in this world, expressed his excitement about bringing The Mandalorian & Grogu to the big screen. “I have loved telling stories in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said in a statement (via Variety ).
This film marks the first Star Wars film project since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, which served as the grand conclusion to the original nine-chapter saga. The Mandalorian & Grogu stands as an exciting additional chapter, cementing the series’ lasting impact and taking these beloved characters to new heights.
Favreau, in collaboration with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and the creator of Ahsoka, Dave Filoni, will take over production on The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Kennedy expressed his excitement by stating that Favreau and Filoni have introduced two new and beloved characters to Star Wars, and that this new story is perfect for the big screen.
The film will lead Lucasfilm’s upcoming slate of feature film developments, which includes other Star Wars films directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold and Dave Filoni.
Although Disney’s release schedule is subject to change, an untitled Star Wars film is scheduled for May 22, 2026, another set in a distant galaxy for December 18, 2026, and a third Star adventure Wars for December 17, 2027. Disney has not yet provided specific details about any of these movies.
