DC fans are waiting with anticipation for Superman: Legacy, as the film will open the doors to a universe with great potential that could turn Marvel around or show that this type of organization does not work for the brand.

The public is analyzing every new news about the casting of the reboot, but they also know that James Gunn likes to work with certain actors and it is possible that we will see them at some point within the franchise.

Given this possibility, some have speculated that Kurt Russell could play Jor-El very well, and in a new interview he confirms that he would like to take that role.

From Marvel to DC and back

After the successful premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn positioned himself at the top of the MCU and became one of the most important elements of the franchise.

What he contributed to the saga was not limited to a fun and novel installment, it also meant opening the doors to a new world that could bring new heroes and villains from all corners of space to grow the canon, something that worked very well in its first stage. A sequel was clear and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 also performed quite well, leaving many expectations for the future of the franchise.

The thing is that the public did their homework and found several messages from Gunn on Twitter that were not at all appropriate, and although he said that they were simply bad jokes and that he had already matured and left that type of comedy behind, Disney decided to fire him.

This led him straight to DC, to whom he proposed a remake of The Suicide Squad which went over very well with fans.

By the time this other film was already in development, and after an extensive campaign in its favor, Marvel asked Gunn to return to take charge of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

All of this was achieved thanks to the support of his colleagues within Marvel, as Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast signed a petition and constantly spoke well of him in public.

That is why many believe that the director has a great alliance with them, one that could lead them to his new and renewed DC universe, and how Kurt Russell also supported him at the time and received praise for his performance as Ego in the sequel from the MCU, the rumor that Gunn wants him to play Jor-El, Superman’s father, is not surprising.

Kurt Russell responds to rumors about Jor-El

Since Superman: Legacy was announced, Gunn has had to comment a lot on rumors of the film and constantly reminds the public that not everything insiders share is true.

On the other hand, he himself has published previews that he considers important, but he also wants to keep some surprises for viewers. So what about Russell as Jor-El? In an interview with ComicBook , the actor clarified the rumors, but also revealed that he would like to take the famous role:

Yeah! Yes, I will replace Marlon Brando! I mean, there was something amazing about the way he looked around. I don’t care that he was watching his lines: it’s incredibly cool to see!

The actor talks about Marlon Brando in Richard Donner ‘s adaptation of Superman: The Movie where the character appears to guide his son as a hologram. But Jor-El has been shown differently in other adaptations; In fact, many praised the first minutes of Man of Steel where Russell Crowe played him as a man in crisis who knows that his world is close to being destroyed.

Russell also said that the character had many possibilities that could be explored:

“Maybe there’s a version… I’ve never heard of this, so I don’t know. James Gunn was great to work with though, so you never know.”

Although the actor would be willing to take on the role, his statement also confirms that the rumors are not true and Gunn has not spoken to him about joining his DCU; In fact, it is not known if the director will use this father figure in Superman: Legacy or save it for another occasion.
