After the trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard came to an end and the actor’s image was restored to his fans, many expected him to return to his Hollywood ways immediately, but this did not happen. In fact, the performer assured that he had no intention of working again with those who had turned their backs on him and preferred to give priority to his career as a musician. However, with the right role, it is possible that Depp will return to the big screen very soon and Terry Gilliam hopes to convince him to join his new project.
Johnny Depp’s long-awaited return to Hollywood
For many years, Depp was not only considered one of the most important actors of his generation, he was also recognized as one of the highest-grossing names in the industry, a path he achieved thanks to his participation in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Pearl Pearl Black and its consequences. Although the saga was no longer as strong as before, fans were still won over by the actor’s presence and that was enough to fill the theaters and justify more installments.
The trial between Depp and Heard took a long time to arrive, and before the expected confrontation took place in a very public way, the audiences had already taken their respective positions, like the rest of Hollywood. Some remained close to the actor, but others distanced themselves completely and even declared that they would never work with him again. In this way, the performer abandoned his most popular roles and other opportunities to dedicate himself fully to his demand, and in the end that was also a benefit for his image.
When Depp was declared by the media as the winner of the trial, his fans expected to see him return as Jack Sparrow or at least accepting several roles immediately. However, not all Hollywood actors and directors sided with him and stayed out of the situation, which also led him to leave the country to tour with his band. His first relevant role was that of Louis XV in Jeanne du Barry , a film directed by and starring Maïwenn that premiered at Cannes with moderate success.
Terry Gilliam wants to offer Johnny Depp the role of Satan
Although the biographical film divided the opinions of experts, many recognized Depp’s strength and the topic of his formal return to the film industry regained momentum. It is Terry Gilliam who believes he can bring him back with a very interesting role for his next film called Carnival at the End of Days . In an interview with Variety , the director of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote revealed their intentions by giving details about the premise of their project:God annihilates humanity and the only character who wants to save them is Satan, and Johnny Depp plays Satan.
This is a simple story of “God annihilating humanity for ruining his beautiful garden, the Earth… There is only one character who is trying to save humanity and that is Satan, because without humanity he would lose his job and he is an eternal character. and living without work is terrible. He then finds some young people and tries to convince God that these young people are the new Adam and Eve. God can still wipe out humanity. It’s a comedy.”
For many years, Depp was waiting for the production of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, a film that for Terry Gilliam represented a very difficult dream to fulfill. In the documentary Lost in La Mancha the actor is seen preparing to play Toby, a role that eventually fell into the hands of Adam Driver when the film found new life after almost thirty years without real progress.
Thanks to this connection, it is possible that Depp will be encouraged to participate in the director’s new project that still does not have a filming or release date.
