The stars of Dune: Part Two visited CDMX for an incredible premiere. Our correspondent was present at the press conference with Timothée Chalamet and the rest of the cast, where the protagonist spoke about the spectacular character development that Paul Atreides will have in the second part.
The young heir will have to face a unique destiny that involves great risk of life.
What is the story of Dune about?
Dune is a science fiction epic set in the distant future, where noble families control planets and fight for control of the most valuable resource in the universe: the spice called melange.
The plot follows Paul Atreides, son of noble Duke Leto Atreides, as his family is assigned to rule the desert planet Arrakis, the spice’s main producer.
Paul finds himself embroiled in political conflict, intrigue, and prophecies as he confronts the desert inhabitants known as the Fremen and discovers his own latent powers.
The story explores themes of power, religion, ecology, and destiny, as Paul becomes a central figure in an epic struggle for control of the universe.
With rich mythology and a complex narrative, Dune offers a deep exploration of politics and religion in a futuristic setting.
The film presents a visually stunning look at the vast desert landscapes of Arrakis, as well as the intricate societies and cultures that inhabit it.
As the plot unfolds, conspiracies and alliances unravel as Paul Atreides confronts his fate and his family’s legacy in a power struggle that spans planets and civilizations.
What is Dune: Part 2 about?
The new film covers the second half of the first novel. Paul Atreides will face new challenges with the Fremen people and his love, the young Chani (Zendaya).
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the cast will also see Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Rebecca Ferguson as Jessica Atreides, and Christopher Walken as Emperor Padyszach Szaddam IV.
What did Timothée Chalamet say about the evolution of Paul Atreides in Dune 2?
Atreides is not destined to be an ordinary man, and that is evident from the first film. Chalamet shares details (spoiler-free) about the character’s development:
“At the beginning of the first film, Paul is behind walls, literally. He has a noble origin. I think he has some virtue, but he hasn’t passed any test.
He is literally the son of a Duke. He falls into personal tragedy in the first film; he finds himself in exile towards the end. […]
By the end of this film, we see someone who is no longer a man, he is already an adult, but also someone who accepts a role as a leader that he had previously rejected.
He is someone who pursues another path with Chani, who accepts him for who he already is, but destiny calls him, and he cannot reject it.”
Dune: Part Two premieres on February 29.
