Tom Hardy’s Venom 3 comeback: filming resumes in style
As soon as the MCU became popular, production companies began to give the green light to similar projects in an attempt to obtain similar profits, thus causing an overexploitation of the subject and the production of a lot of films of dubious quality.
However, not all proposals were a failure with the public even though critics despised them, and the best example was Venom -35% that had a great run at the box office and created its own franchise that could soon come to an end. After several months on hiatus, Tom Hardy celebrated the restart of filming with a message that also seems to confirm that Venom 3 will be his last work in this world of superheroes.
After the failure of The Amazing Spider-Man 2: The Electro Menace -52% and Andrew Garfield deciding to walk away from the franchise despite being a big fan of the character, Sony faced a big dilemma about its superhero adaptations. Since the rights to Spidey are in their hands, they could launch a new trilogy in an attempt to capture the charm that Spider-Man provoked – 89% at the time, but now in a new context that could benefit them; or they could give the protagonist to the MCU just as the fans wanted.
The corporation entered into an agreement with Marvel to integrate Spider-Man into the MCU, featuring Tom Holland in the pivotal role. This collaboration proved immensely beneficial for both the character and the broader superhero franchise. However, Sony harbored ambitions to construct an independent universe, leveraging the extensive Spider-Man canon, an underutilized treasure in spite of its immense popularity among aficionados of comic books.
Sony’s Spider-Man universe emerged from the triumph of ‘Venom.’
Due to constraints imposed by the MCU’s plans, Sony refrained from freely utilizing Spider-Man. Instead, they opted to spotlight their canon’s renowned villains, portraying them as antiheroes in standalone films. The inaugural endeavor, ‘Venom,’ faced critical disdain but resonated positively with the audience. Embracing a return to the simplicity and enjoyment of comic book adaptations, Tom Hardy’s performance garnered acclaim. Capitalizing on the film’s box office success, Hardy assumed increased creative authority.
In response to the triumph, the production company swiftly greenlit numerous projects, laying the foundation for an autonomous superhero universe—remarkably, without its primary superhero. The idea seemed quite absurd, but Venom: Carnage Unleashed -45% reaffirmed that something was working within the concept although it was very delicate, since the same formula did not work to lift Morbius -21% during its premiere. With the arrival of Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter so far in the calendar, the production of Venom 3 is the one that seems to keep fans’ attention, especially now that the production team can return to work after the writers and actors strikes that paralyzed Hollywood.
Tom Hardy confirms filming of ‘Venom 3’
In an Instagram post , Tom Hardy celebrated the filming of Venom 3 and hinted that it could be his last adventure as the character:
The Last Dance: Luckily, we’re back to filming now; and I want to take a moment to thank all the teams involved in the journey so far from V1 to here, all our fantastic cast and crew, good friends and family, we have come a long way, it has been and continues to be a very fun journey.
There are always difficult times to overcome when we work, but it doesn’t feel so difficult when you love what you do and when you know that you have great material and the support from all sides of a great team, surrounded by talented and passionate departments, and when you are surrounded from people you love and care about, there is nothing better.
I’d like to express my profound pride in my director, writing collaborator, and close associate, Kelly Marcel. Seeing you take charge of this fills me with pride, it is an honor. Trust your intuition, your instincts are always right. You are first class: I have your back 100%, as always. And I love working with you and watching you take on bigger and bigger challenges. And to my great friend, Chief Plant Operator and brother Jake Tomuri, Jacob, you still look like me, brother.
Here’s to a great trip!!!
Hardy actively participated in the script of this third installment, so if Venom 3 turns out to be his farewell, it is certain that he is satisfied with the decision and the way it will happen. The sequel had to change its release date due to strikes, so now it will hit commercial theaters until November 8, 2024.
