True Detective: Issa López decries Season 4 review bombing, calls it ‘Sad’ – The Mexican director condemns the negative criticism that has come like an avalanche.

The fourth season of True Detective: Night Land premiered on the HBO Max platform and we finally witnessed the return of one of the most acclaimed series on television.
However, not everything is going well. While the previous seasons of the series have almost perfect ratings, the new one is receiving low numbers, in fact, so-called “review bombing” was detected on the Rotten Tomatoes platform.
Given the negative reviews, Mexican director Issa López responds to all those who are working to leave the series in a bad position.
As the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station disappear without a trace.
To solve the case, detectives Liz Danvers ( Jodie Foster ) and Evangeline Navarro ( Kali Reis ) will have to face the darkness within and delve into the tormented truths that lie buried beneath the eternal ice.
The previous synopsis of True Detective invites us to delve into a drama characterized by mystery, melancholy and a creepy touch, however, the negative comments have not been long in coming. In a deleted X post, López charges against the haters:
“So if you liked last night’s [episode] of [True Detective: Nightland] and you have a Rotten Tomatoes account, maybe go over there and leave an audience review? The bros and hardcore fans [of Season 1] have taken it upon themselves to lower the rating, and it’s a little sad, considering all the 5-star ratings.”
Shortly after, the director offers a correction and thanks:
“OK. I deleted a post. I hate review bombing of any kind, but A: our RT audience score is much better now, and B: I used a generalization about who was doing the bombing. And generalizations are ALWAYS a mistake.
And! many beautiful brothers and die-hard fans of the first season of True Detective loved our episode one!”
Colossal Spirit Series
True Detective was created by Nic Pizzolatto which debuted in 2014. Each season features a different plot and characters, exploring dark and complex crimes while examining the psychology of the protagonists.
The series is known for its dense narrative, distinctive visual style, and standout performances from its cast, particularly in the first season which featured Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
True Detective has left an indelible mark on pop culture by reinventing the television detective genre and raising the standard of quality in television production, becoming a benchmark for future series that seek to fuse suspense, psychological exploration and high-quality cinematography.
The impact of True Detective is reflected in its critical reception and large fan base, as well as the influence it has had on contemporary television.
The series has inspired other productions to adopt more complex narratives and more cinematic visual styles.
Furthermore, the success of True Detective helped consolidate the trend of renowned actors participating in television projects, marking a significant change in the perception and quality of television programming.
The series is not only an intriguing work of entertainment, but also a catalyst for changes in the way crime and mystery television series are conceived and produced.
Now, going into greater detail, “review bombing” is an online practice where a group of users coordinately make extremely negative or positive reviews en masse about a product, service, movie, book, video game, or any other content on platforms from reviews such as Amazon, Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, Metacritic or Steam.
This phenomenon can be motivated by various reasons, such as political disputes, controversies, discontent with creative decisions, or even as a form of protest.
Review bombing can distort public perception of the real quality of a product and negatively affect creators, since mass reviews do not always reflect genuine consumer opinions, but rather a strategy of collective online expression.
This phenomenon has generated debates about the integrity of online reviews and has led platforms to take measures to mitigate the impact of review bombing, such as implementing purchase verification systems or identifying and removing reviews that are considered outside. contextual or manipulative.
Although some review bombing campaigns seek to generate positive change, the practice has also been criticized for its ability to distort public perception and unfairly affect creators.
However, in the case of the fourth season of True Detective, we are facing discontent among the fandom, with the most loyal followers of the series disqualifying the efforts of Issa and his team for subjective reasons.
