Why Game of Thrones creators have not seen House of the Dragon

Why Game of Thrones creators have not seen House of the Dragon – After leading the global television phenomenon that was Game of Thrones, Benioff and Weiss found themselves with multiple proposals for new projects.

The controversial creators of the epic series Game of Thrones, David Benioff and DB Weiss, have stated in an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter that they have not seen a single episode of the hit spin-off series, House of the Dragon.

In addition, they have left fans and industry executives speechless by revealing that they rejected substantial offers of money for their participation as producers in this new project.

After leading the global television phenomenon that was Game of Thrones, Benioff and Weiss found themselves with multiple proposals for new projects, including fantasy titles.

However, they expressed the need to leave the world of Westeros behind. It was during a crucial dinner with Netflix executive Friedlander that fate intervened.

Despite not being the type of project they were looking for, Friedlander, nicknamed “Employee No. 1” at Netflix, insisted on the power of the complex science fiction novel, The Three-Body Problem.

Contrary to popular belief that Benioff and Weiss left Game of Thrones to seek greater financial benefits, one detail went unnoticed: their renunciation of producer credits on all future Game of Thrones spin-offs, including House of the Dragon . Faced with this decision, HBO was perplexed.

Benioff remembers his lawyer saying, “But it’s just money, we’re just going to pay you.”

Weiss adds: “I don’t think there’s such a thing as free money. For us, if our name is on it, especially that, while we’re completely disconnected and involved, we feel like the tension that would come with that hands-free approach, whether it’s with your success or failure, it wasn’t worth it.”

Surprisingly, both creators admit to not having seen House of the Dragon. Weiss recently relived the Game of Thrones experience with his family, but is reluctant to reflect on the outcome.

Benioff, for his part, hasn’t seen an episode since the series finale. Currently, he shows enthusiasm for the animated series Scavengers Reign in Max.

This unusual decision by the creators of Thrones has generated speculation and has left fans and the industry in general wondering about the impact this unprecedented stance will have on the future of The House of the Dragon and the legacy of Game of Thrones.

Only time will reveal whether Benioff and Weiss’ vision for this television phenomenon continues to defy expectations, or if, in this particular case, they have decided to let their creation take flight on its own.

The House of the Dragon, a mass phenomenon

House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama series, created by George RR Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO.

Based on Martin’s book Fire & Blood, the series is set around 100 years after the Targaryen Conquest and explores the legendary “Dance of Dragons,” a devastating war of succession.

The cast includes Paddy Considine as King Viserys I Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, and Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

The plot takes place before the events of Game of Thrones, following the events that lead to the decline of House Targaryen.

The series received positive reviews for its character development, visual effects, writing, music by Ramin Djawadi, and performances.

Although the premiere was praised, the pacing, especially the time jumps, and the darkness in some scenes were criticized.

After premiering in August 2022, it was renewed for a second season, scheduled for mid-2024 with Ryan Condal as sole showrunner. At the Golden Globe Awards, it won Best Television Series – Drama.
