Wyatt Russell, one of the stars of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, interviews The Hollywood Reporter to talk about Thunderbolts, one of the films that Marvel Studios already has in development and that will be directed by Jake Schreiber.
In it we will see David Harbour, Florence Pugh and, of course, Russell stand out.
The actor talks about the criticism that has been made of the MCU about his recent films and assures that it is time for the studio to make a good project; he’s confident Thunderbolts will be like that.
Russell is an American actor and former ice hockey player who has emerged as a versatile talent in the entertainment industry. The son of legendary Hollywood couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, Wyatt initially pursued a career in hockey, playing in the Collegiate Hockey League during his college years.
However, after retiring from hockey, he moved into the world of acting. His on-screen presence became notable in films such as 22 Jump Street and Everybody Wants Some!! , but it was his portrayal in Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier television series , where he played the character John Walker, that gave him greater visibility and recognition worldwide.
Like fish in the water
Throughout his career, Wyatt Russell has demonstrated his ability to take on diverse roles, from comedies to more intense and dramatic projects.
His rise in the entertainment industry suggests continued potential to excel in challenging and varied roles, building on the foundation established by his outstanding performances in recent projects. About Thunderbolts, this is what he has to say:
“I know everyone is on this Marvel train right now that things aren’t going so well. I know Jake very well and I know how smart he is and how much he cares about doing something interesting and different and using everyone’s talents to the best of their ability.
And the story that I think they came up with is really interesting: I know parts of the story and how it works, I can’t talk about that.
But it’s not a simple Marvel movie like you’ve seen in the past. This is a little different, let’s try it.’ It’s coming, it’s time to go do some work, it’s time to make a good Marvel movie, so let’s do it.”
John Walker is a fundamental character in the plot and a different version of Captain America. Initially, he is introduced as the new Captain America appointed by the United States government following the retirement of Steve Rogers.
Unlike Rogers’ ethical and moral approach, Walker carries a more complex burden, struggling with the pressure of filling the big shoes of the original Captain America.
His introduction generates tensions with the protagonists, Sam Wilson (Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier), who question his suitability for the role and his ability to embody the values of the mythical hero.
As the series progresses, John Walker’s portrayal becomes even more complicated as he faces challenges and makes decisions that question his moral integrity.
This twist in the story adds layers of complexity to the character, making him an ambiguous figure that reflects the complications and dilemmas of patriotism and heroism in a contemporary context.
The inclusion of John Walker in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier contributes significantly to the exploration of darker, more nuanced themes within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
