Sean Penn says Matthew Perry’s death was tragic, but not unexpected The ‘Friends’ actor’s lifeless body was found in the jacuzzi of his Los Angeles home last month.
Since then, his friends and his five co-stars have been reacting to the sad news through statements that remember him as a person tormented by his addiction problems, but who still always managed to make everyone laugh that surrounded him.
All of those messages conveyed the same feeling: how sad it was to have lost him so unexpectedly when he finally seemed to have found some stability in his personal life, which he himself had recently reviewed in a book of memoirs.
That is why it is so striking that Sean Penn has distanced himself from that line in the statements he has just made about Matthew Perry in a new interview, where he assured that his death seemed very tragic to him, but that it did not surprise him much.
“I don’t know what the coroner’s report will say and all that, but I know that a lot of damage had been done to his organs over the years,” he added in statements to ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored’.”

I saw him recently, we were both catching a flight at the Los Angeles airport, and I congratulated him on what I knew about his book. I hadn’t read the book, I had seen several of his interviews, and it seemed like he talked about it, that he had faced it and that he was very intelligent and bold about it and that he generously offered his experience to people to be helpful.”
