Get ready to float! Pennywise will return to haunt her nightmares with the series Welcome to Derry , the prequel to It that will count the years before the defeat of the strange creature at the hands of the Losers Club. In a trailer for the 2024 and 2025 premieres, HBO Max has shared a brief look at this horror show that will soon be arriving on its platform.
The trailer for Welcome to Derry reveals just a couple of shots in which you can see a group of children on bicycles riding through the town. Then we see another being dragged into a river from a boat by a terrifying hand. Finally, a man notices a red balloon stuck in the branches of a tree. The show is currently in production and has at least a couple more in development.
The series will see the return of Andy Muschietti as director, he was in charge of the two films in 2017 and 2019. In charge of the scripts we will have Jason Fuchs , who will also be one of the showrunners. Few official details about the plot have been shared, but it will chronicle another chronological moment of the city and It, the shape-shifting creature that stalks it and devours its children.
Although it may not seem like it, those who have read Stephen King ‘s novel will know that there are many details about Derry’s history that did not make it into the more recent films. The book even suggests that the origin of It is extraterrestrial and that it arrived with a meteorite and has been over the years that it ends up merging with the city itself, which faces a cataclysm when the protagonists finally defeat the entity.
The trailer also boasted several HBO Max series that will be arriving in 2024. Among them, we have the fourth season of True Detective, the parody of the world of superheroes The Franchise, the new episodes of the comedy Hacks and the Penguin series, which will connect to The Batman Part II. Obviously, the most stellar of them all will be the return of House of the Dragon in the summer.
Unfortunately for fans, another project that will premiere until 2025 will be the second season of The Last of Us, a series that this year became a phenomenon. It is known that filming will begin in early 2024, so it is not a surprise that the network wants to take the time necessary to have it ready and in the best possible shape for when they are finally going to share it with the public.
Welcome to Derry still has a couple of years before revealing to the public the origins of It and the horrors it caused during centuries of haunting the city. Until then, remember that both and It: Chapter Two are available on HBO Max. And hopefully, the other handful of titles that were teased will keep you excited and subscribed to their platform throughout 2024, at least.
