Melissa Barrera captivated slasher film fans with her participation in the most recent films of the Scream franchise. However, in recent months, she jumped into controversy after being fired from Scream 7 for openly supporting Palestine, denouncing genocide against the civil population.
Shortly after, she received the support of Jenna Ortega herself, her co-star, leaving the production of the seventh installment, and now the Mexican actress is grateful for her support.
It was in November last year when Barrera shared some posts on Instagram, criticizing the situation in the Gaza Strip and stating that it is a “concentration camp” and describing the attacks as “genocide and ethnic cleansing.”
The Hollywood Reporter reported that the above prompted Spyglass, the production company behind the Scream films, to remove Barrera from the cast of Scream 7.
The leaders of the studio accuse Melissa of antisemitism, justifying the decision by ensuring that they maintain “zero tolerance” towards inciting hatred.
Now, in an interview with Rolling Stone, Melissa Barrera thanks Jenna Ortega for abandoning the production of Scream 7 as a sign of support:
“Jenna is a good person, and we love each other. She would do anything for me, and I would do anything for her no matter what.”

A global fear
The conflict between Israel and Palestine is a complex and deep-rooted confrontation involving territorial claims, historical rights, and ethnic and religious disputes.
The root dates back to the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, which led to a significant Palestinian refugee population and the loss of land.
Since then, the conflict has involved numerous events, including the Six-Day War in 1967 and repeated attempts at conflict resolution through peace agreements, such as those in Oslo in the 1990s.
The dispute centers on the sovereignty over Jerusalem, the rights of return of Palestinian refugees, Israeli settlements in occupied territories, and the national security of both sides.
Both sides have experienced significant losses and suffered humanitarian consequences during decades of conflict, with sporadic violence and recurring clashes exacerbating tensions.
Opinions on the conflict vary widely, and the search for a lasting and just solution has proven to be a formidable challenge.
While some advocate for a two-state solution with internationally recognized borders, others seek a more comprehensive and equitable solution that addresses the fundamental concerns of both sides.
The conflict continues to be a hot topic in global geopolitics and a constant concern for peace and stability in the Middle East region.
