Numerous comments have been made regarding the subject (and even Ricky Gervais mentioned it during his extraordinary presentation at the 2020 Golden Globes) and the filmmaker returns to it through the question that Variety asked him in the recent interview: Marty, what? Do you attend public screenings of your own films? This was his hilarious response:
“I do not do that. People talk and move a lot. I am short and there is always a big person in front of me. The same goes for Broadway: I can’t go to the theater. There is someone in front of me and I can’t see the stage or hear the show.
I really enjoy Imax as I get older. You come in, you can sit in the back and look up. At regular screenings, I’ve found that audiences get a little more raucous than they used to be. But maybe it will always be like the ’50s, when we used to yell at the screen.
But for me it is very important to support movies while they are on the big screen. I just wait a while.”
