Through an official statement (via IGN ), it is reported that the United States National Film Registry has added Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Home Alone, The Strange World of Jack, among others, to the acclaimed compendium.
Once a year they are informed of this great good news and now we have more classics added to the list. Below you can read the statement from Carla Hayden , Librarian of Congress:
“Films are an integral piece of America’s cultural heritage, reflecting stories of our nation for more than 125 years. We are proud to add 25 diverse films to the National Film Registry while preserving our history through film.
We thank the film community for collaborating with the Library of Congress in our goal of preserving film heritage for generations to come.”
The selection process for adding films to the National Film Registry in the United States is based on several criteria. The Library of Congress, which manages the registry, considers the cultural, historical and aesthetic significance of the films.
It is assessed whether the film reflects the diversity of the American experience, addresses significant social and political issues, or has had a lasting impact on film culture.
The preservation and accessibility of the film is also taken into account, considering the availability of copies in good condition and the ability to preserve it over time.
Inclusion in the National Film Registry seeks to recognize and preserve those works that have left a significant mark on the cinematic history and cultural identity of the United States.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day is a science fiction film directed by James Cameron. The plot is set in an apocalyptic future where machines led by Skynet have unleashed a war against humanity.
Sent from the future, a new Terminator, the T-800 (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger), is programmed to protect John Connor ( Edward Furlong ), the future leader of the human resistance, while an advanced liquid model, the T- 1000 (played by Robert Patrick), is sent to eliminate him.
Sarah Connor ( Linda Hamilton ), John’s mother, also plays a crucial role, as she fights to protect her son and prevent the apocalypse.
The film is notable for its innovative special effects, especially the pioneering use of CGI technology to bring the T-1000 to life.
As the story unfolds, themes of humanity, artificial intelligence and moral responsibility are explored, all framed in an intense action and suspense narrative that has made Terminator 2 a classic of the genre.
Home Alone 2 picks up the story of Kevin McCallister, played again by Macaulay Culkin , during the Christmas season. This time, Kevin boards the wrong flight and ends up alone in New York City while his family heads to Florida.
Taking advantage of his stay in the Big Apple, Kevin explores the city and once again confronts thieves Harry ( Joe Pesci ) and Marv ( Daniel Stern ), who have escaped from prison.
Using his wits to set up traps, Kevin defends not only his temporary home in New York, but also a toy store where Duncan, played by Tim Curry , works .
The film maintains the humorous tone and clever tricks that characterized the first installment, while Kevin learns valuable lessons about the importance of family and understanding.
With memorable comedic moments and a mix of urban adventures and Christmas themes, Home Alone 2 has become another classic film that continues to be loved for its charm and holiday entertainment.
On the other hand, The Strange World of Jack is an animated film directed by Henry Selick and produced by Tim Burton.

Determined to bring something new to his dark world, Jack decides to take control of Christmas, but his macabre interpretations and lack of understanding about the true meaning of the holiday lead to comical and chaotic results.
The film combines dark and charming elements with Tim Burton ‘s distinctive visual aesthetic.
