‘Argylle’ opens number 1 at the US box office, but with very insignificant data

‘Argylle’ opens number 1 at the US box office, but with very insignificant data. According to forecasts, ‘Argylle‘ will be the only release of the week to enter the top 5 at the box office, but its figures are very low compared to what Apple paid for it.

Argylle,’ the new action comedy directed by Matthew Vaughn and starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson among others (it has a very ensemble cast) has been released in theaters.

So far it is crowning itself with number 1 at the US box office, although with figures that are not enough to throw any party.

According to data from Deadline, Apple Original Films would have paid 200 million dollars for ‘Argylle,’ which in its first weekend in theaters has only grossed 16.5 million in 3 days, and this based on forecasts, not definitive figures.

Furthermore, the reviews are not supportive either: Vaughn’s film has an average of 36 on Metacritic, a 35 on Rotten Tomatoes, and a C+ CinemaScore (on eCartelera it has a 7).

In these three days, from Friday the 2nd to Sunday the 4th, the audience that went to see ‘Argylle‘ was more male (52%) and 40% of them were over 25 years old. In terms of diversity, the film has attracted a mainly Caucasian audience (53%), followed by Latino (20%), black (12%), and Asian (10%) audiences in theaters.

In the rest of the ranking, there is only one more premiere that has made it onto the list and it has two buts: it did so in position 7 and it is not even a film.

Fathom Event has brought 3 episodes of the fourth season of ‘The Chosen,’ a series about the life of Jesus Christ, to theaters, conquering the religious audience. In sixth place is ‘Anyone But You,’ ‘American Fiction‘ is eighth and is followed by ‘Poor Creatures‘ and ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ which closes the ranking. With their figures, the estimated top 5 from February 2 to 4 looks like this:

Another record for ‘Wonka’

Although it has taken third place, after 8 weeks in theaters, ‘Wonka‘ will exceed $200 million at the domestic box office this weekend. With these figures, right now it is the eighth highest-grossing film of 2023, already surpassing ‘John Wick 4‘ and just below ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘, which ended with 214.5 million.

The 5 films of 2023 that have generated the most income in the United States are: ‘Barbie,’ ‘Super Mario Bros.: The Movie,’ ‘Spider-Man: Crossing the Multiverse,’ ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,’ and ‘Oppenheimer‘.
