A new day and a new actor joins James Gunn ‘s plans for the DCU. The reboot of the franchise, which will be directed by him and producer Peter Safran, is approaching quickly.
The most recent report reveals that the studio will leave Pedro Pascal behind for Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, a villain who would have a cameo in Superman: Legacy by his director’s brother, both collaborate frequently.
Who is Maxwell Lord?
According to Deadline , Sean Gunn will play Maxwell Lord in Superman: Legacy. This is the latest role that the actor will have in a film by his brother, the director, James Gunn.
The character, who is an evil businessman, will apparently have a cameo in the upcoming Man of Steel movie. Previously, the role had been played by the Chilean Pedro Pascal in Wonder Woman 1984.
In his past works, Gunn had similarly given Sean supporting roles. As you know, he is Kraglin, a member of the ravagers and heir to Yondu’s arrow, in Guardians of the Galaxy and he was also the actor who played Weasel in The Suicide Squad, a character that was made with effects digital since it is a monstrous version of a weasel. His collaborations will continue in the DCU.
As you know, in the Patty Jenkins movie , Pascal’s version of the character is a man who uses a magic rock to form a multi-million dollar empire. This leads him to cross paths with Wonder Woman.
Although the film was affected by the pandemic, it was not the success with fans that the first installment was. However, the Chilean actor was one of the elements that stood out in it, but there will be no place for him in the DCU.
There are few official details about Superman: Legacy. However, rumors suggest that it will be set in a world in which many superheroes and villains already exist and it will be in that context that young Clark Kent must find his own place.
Hence, although Lord will not be the main antagonist, he is referred to. The film will officially begin the DCU and will be the first film title from the newly formed DC Studios.
The announcement comes a few weeks before the premiere of Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom . The film, which will be the last of the dying DCEU, will likely see Jason Momoa ‘s final appearance as the titular hero.
Plagued by delays, reports of extensive reshoots and poor results at test screenings, the film has failed to gain momentum and could be the final nail in the coffin for that franchise given its high budget.
Although Gunn has tried to be cautious about the fact that not all the actors will return for the DCU, it will most likely be at the end of this month or early January, once the fate of the Aquaman sequel becomes clearer, let’s have more news about the reboot plans.
At the moment, the Creature Commandos animated series is scheduled to premiere in early 2024, but a date has not been confirmed yet. Superman: Legacy , for its part, will be on display until July 2025.
