Little by little, and thanks to the good reviews of Love Without Barriers and the support of Steven Spielberg, Rachel Zegler has become one of the most promising actresses of her generation and it is not unusual to see her in more important productions.

The remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves will be essential for her career, although it is also a different challenge for the interpreter, partly because the story will change several points to update the character, and partly because the filming was quite complicated because of the excessive use of CGI.

Rachel Zegler conquered Hollywood in just a few years

Thanks to his impeccable voice, Zegler began a very productive career on Broadway, but the remake of Amor sin Barreras became a unique opportunity to shine in Hollywood.

Unfortunately, the pandemic affected its premiere and, eventually, also its passage through the global billboard, so it did not meet expectations at the box office despite being well received by experts and even fans of the original.

The failed box office was not an obstacle for Zegler, who caught the attention of the public and the production companies who began to call her for other proposals. Shazam! The Fury of the Gods -55% didn’t do very well due to all the DC problems, but The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes -70% had a good reception from fans of the original saga and the novel, which leaves many doors open for it.

However, it is the role of Snow White that was most controversial due to a series of prejudices from the public and some comments that the actress made regarding her character.

For several years now, Disney has been hoping to take advantage of fans’ nostalgia by producing live-action remakes of animated classics, and although the idea started off on the right foot, it soon went off the rails and has not found its way back.

In 2016, the company confirmed that it was already working on a new version of Snow White, but it was not until 2021 that they confirmed their cast, and the public response was not the best. Many were upset because Zegler is Latina and they did not consider that she could “compete” against Gal Gadot , who will play the villain of the film.

Things got worse when Zegler said that the character and story would be renewed to give Snow White more room to grow as a woman and leader, at which time he also acknowledged that he was not a fan of the original animation precisely because of its treatment of the protagonist.

Since then, a certain sector of the public has dedicated itself to criticizing every step of the production and took great advantage of the publication of the first official image that confirmed that the dwarfs would be created with CGI.

Rachel Zegler reveals what it was like filming the CGI-filled remake

In a chat with Halle Bailey for Variety ‘s Actors on Actors , the young actress spoke for the first time about what it was like filming the remake that makes so much use of CGI:

“I spent most of that day [when we filmed “Whistle While You Work”] singing into nothingness. I’m sure you know what that can be like too. There was a lot of puppetry and CGI in post-production. It was really intense. There are a lot of mistakes where I threw a broom and let it fall to the ground because apparently that’s how you throw things at CGI characters. But it’s so much fun!”

Zegler also said that he hoped to live up to expectations and was very excited to see the result of filming:

This is something iconic that people really care about. I don’t want to ruin this for anyone, including myself. The writers, Marc Webb and our entire production team… the story is a little different. We were able to do ‘Whistle While You Work’, which made me very happy and excited.

After several delays due to the way of filming and the strike due to the actors’ strike, Disney decided to postpone the premiere of Snow White until March 2025, a very risky decision that could condemn the film or give it a boost if people stop attacking Zegler. in the coming months.
