Despite the rejection of viewers towards The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2: The Electro Menace, after several years, Andrew Garfield was recognized for his work as the hero and for how much he contributed to Spidey’s legacy.
The character remains one of the public’s favorites and continues to be widely exploited in every possible way, with some projects more outstanding than others. For example, Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse is already one of the fans’ favorite installments and Garfield shares that sentiment, ensuring that the sequel is simply a masterpiece.
Spider-Man has been renewed thanks to its film adaptations
Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s most popular heroes and one of those with the most adaptations and versions of all kinds. The animated series marked different generations and kept his figure present, but the live action films managed to establish something even more lasting.
Sam Raimi ‘s Spider-Man, starring Tobey Maguire , arrived at the exact moment when superhero movies needed to renew themselves to take advantage of their space on the summer billboards and the growth of comic book fans.
Spider-Man 2 changed the game again by delivering one of the most interesting villains of the genre, and although Spider-Man 3 did not achieve something similar, it did become an indispensable piece for the character’s growth.
When Andrew Garfield took the role for the remake, everything was against him, as fans were upset by the cancellation of Raimi’s fourth film and did not see the actor as Peter Parker. The first installment of this new version worked halfway, but everyone rescued the presence and chemistry of the protagonists.
Faced with the failed attempt to build a franchise as competitive as the UCM, Sony lent the rights to the hero to Marvel to work on a new version within its universe, and that is how Tom Holland arrived to make the role his own.
As the years went by, fans appreciated Holland more and more, but also Garfield, without leaving behind the usual respect for Maguire’s work, something that the company took advantage of very well in Spider-Man: No Way Home which among many other things, served to prove that the interpreter of Tick, Tick… Boom! deserved more recognition.
But in recent years, animation has also been a great option to approach Spider-Man from another angle and, despite the doubts of some, adapting Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was the best decision.
This title raised expectations about superhero cinema, but also about animation for all ages and its sequel was not far behind. Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse was praised by the majority of critics and fans who cannot wait for the release of the third installment.
Andrew Garfield also thinks Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is great
Thanks to his contribution to the hero’s legacy, Andrew Garfield was invited to moderate a question and answer session for a screening of the animated film that took place in London, and there he shared his feelings about the sequel (via Screen Rant )
“I am very happy and honored to be here. It’s the first time I’ve done a Q&A with people I love, and also the movie we just saw which I think we can all agree is a masterpiece. A masterpiece of animation and a masterpiece of pure cinema.”
In addition to Garfield as moderator, the session was also attended by producer Amy Pascal, screenwriters Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and composer Daniel Pemberton.
Although the latest installment was expected to hit theaters next year, Hollywood strikes, as well as complaints from several animators and artists who revealed the exploitation that took place during production, caused the company to change the release, although they have not confirmed the new date.
