In 2020, Joe Rogan signed a three-year, $200 million deal with Spotify, making his “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast 100% exclusive to Spotify.

With the end of those three years, it was time for a new agreement. That just happened. And if reports are accurate, not only is Rogan making another truckload of money, but the podcast will return to other streaming platforms.

Rogan’s new Spotify deal could be worth up to $250 million over several years. You’ll receive an upfront payment, likely in the tens of millions of dollars, a minimal blanket guarantee, and a percentage of the advertising revenue generated by your show on rival platforms.

Spotify’s focus on broader advertising reach rather than exclusivity shows that ad sales have proven to be a more important revenue stream than subscriptions in the podcast space, and the platform has reportedly adjusted some of its expenses in that area compared to previous years, opting instead for revenue-sharing deals like the one it has with Rogan.

But it should come as no surprise that Spotify is still willing to spend big to keep an open business relationship with Rogan. He’s by far their most popular podcaster, and a press release from the company has some interesting numbers about it:

“Since the podcast became exclusive to Spotify, overall podcast consumption on the platform has surged by 232%.”

As a result of this exponential growth we have seen, this has attracted a wide range of advertisers who have fueled the increase of 80% in revenue in 2023 from 2021, including a 45% increase in revenue in 2023 for the program.”

Between the two deals with Spotify, Joe will have earned $450 million from the streaming platform in approximately six years.

And in the end, you will still own your program! So, presumably, in December 2026/January 2027, he will be a free agent again, free to sign another massive contract.
