During a new interview with Comicbook , the director admits that he would like to make more original films.
In recent years, Hollywood has experienced a trend toward favoring franchises over original films due to economic and commercial factors.
The film industry has noted that franchises, whether comic book adaptations, sequels, or remakes, tend to have a pre-existing fan base that can guarantee a minimum level of box office success.
This strategy reduces the financial risk associated with film production, as franchises have established brand recognition and often generate revenue through multiple mediums, such as toys, merchandising, and streaming.
The search for profitability has led to the prioritization of franchises over original projects, limiting creative diversity in the cinematographic offering.
Although there have also been efforts to balance both aspects in search of a broader and more varied audience.
Regarding his new concerns about original films, this is what Zack Snyder says:
“It’s weird because… for me, making moves in the film business as a director, writer/director, it’s kind of glacial.
I can’t just turn around and say, ‘Oh, that’s what people want to see.’ So this has been a long time in the making.
I think it’s always been my goal to create original work and do new things. So if that matches what people want, that’s fine with me.”
Zack began his career directing commercials and music videos before entering the world of film.
He became internationally known with his adaptation of 300 in 2006, which was notable for its distinctive visual style, combining a graphic aesthetic with stylized action sequences.
Snyder has specialized in the superhero genre, directing films like Watchmen, an ambitious adaptation of Alan Moore ‘s comic of the same name, and being the architect of the DC Extended Universe with films like Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League .
