We are presenting in this article their journey.
I come across bad luck wherever I go; hard luck seems to be my constant companion.
Our first stop today is the final resting place of Marilyn Monroe.
We’ve visited here before, but never on Valentine’s Day, and we’ve never brought her flowers like this before. It’s a nice day for this, isn’t it, baby ghoul?
So right next to Hugh Hefner, we find Marilyn Monroe.
Now, are you going to leave the whole bouquet? I am, but I want to put one in her… I guess you would call it. I just love the color of this one. They pack it pretty well, don’t they?
Yeah, it’s really tight, so I’m just going to lay it in here. I can still see some lipstick kisses…don’t kiss her stone. And if you do, just do it like this. Right, back up a little bit. So, living here in Hollywood, Happy Valentine’s, baby ghoul, and Happy Valentine’s, Marilyn Monroe.
We’re going to spend the day driving around Hollywood and through this article visiting some Marilyn Monroe sites for Valentine’s because to us, she’s like the epitome of old Hollywood, well, one of the Hollywood icons, but definitely something we think of when we think of Hollywood and Valentine’s Day: Marilyn Monroe.
So, that’s why you guys are getting this article, and it’s something that we can do.
The next stop brings us to a place in Beverly Hills that was once known as Will Wright’s ice cream shop, and today, it’s known as Pascal Patisserie Cafe, right next to the Starbucks. Before we get into this, I want to show you an old picture that was taken back in the ’50s.
You can see this building; the columns are still the same, but we’re going to talk about the porticos at the very top. You see that one way up there? That wasn’t there back when this photo was taken. It’ll make sense a little bit later on.
This intersection is pretty busy; this is a busy road. If it wasn’t, we’d get out in the middle of the street and get a shot that lines up perfectly, but we cannot do that, so this is as close as we’re going to get. Do you want to go inside and get some desserts, line up some shots?
Now, it looks like the window we’re looking for is right down here towards the back, which would make sense because if Marilyn Monroe was here eating ice cream, she’d kind of want to be out of the public eye. And we really think it’s this window right here.
And Jessica‘s sitting in there; I don’t know if you guys can see her because of the reflection. So there’s Jessica; I think you can see her. There she is. So this window right here is where Marilyn Monroe was photographed eating an ice cream sundae back in the ’50s.
Now, when you look at this photo, a couple of things I want to point out: first one being that little portico that you can see on top of the building, it doesn’t look like it was there back when they took the photo back in the ’50s.
And the photo was taken a little bit off to the left-hand side, and the camera was a lot different than the one we use today, so it’s a different depth of field to it. But this is it now. In the photo, if you look very closely across the street in the reflection, you can actually see a building, and that building is this one right here.
Now, I really wish that the Cisco truck wasn’t here because you’d get a better look at it, but pay really close attention to those windows up there at the very top; it’s the same. When it comes to locations that have to deal with Marilyn Monroe, this is definitely one of the ones that you never really think about, not one of the most iconic ones, but it is a very interesting piece of history. It’s kind of like if you’re a local and you know…yeah.
We now find ourselves in Hollywood proper, visiting the Chinese Theater, where you’ll find Marilyn Monroe‘s star. And the thing about this, this is like one of the major tourist spots in Hollywood, if not the world.
There are handprints everywhere, so finding hers can be a little tricky, and if you really want to cheat, you can actually ask some of the attendants of the movie theater;they’ll point you in the right direction. But we’re not going to cheat; we’re going to find it on our own.
So we’re walking along, and we’re trying to find Marilyn Monroe‘s star. Now, when I was born, the very first thing my parents did was take me to Hollywood and took a picture of me sitting next to her star. And that was my first photo op.
And as a little kid, I used to think, “Oh, it’s so cool; I’m sitting next to Marilyn Monroe‘s star.” But after a while, I realized that, you know, there’s a lot of people who have stars here, and it’s not really that big of a deal.
So we’re walking along, and I’m looking for Marilyn Monroe‘s star, and I’m thinking, “Oh, it’s going to be this big, grand thing,” and it’s not. It’s like right here, and it’s just like everybody else’s star, and it’s like, “Oh, okay.”
So there it is, Marilyn Monroe‘s star. You can see, it’s kind of worn and faded, but it’s still here, and you gotta love it.
Now, the other thing I want to point out is you see these handprints. Now, these are the handprints of the stars, and there’s a whole bunch of them along the way, and you can tell how old they are by looking at the concrete because the concrete here is pretty new, and then it starts to get really old over there.
Now, Marilyn Monroe‘s handprints are actually kind of interesting because they’re not just handprints; they’re actually footprints. And the reason why is because Marilyn Monroe was a dancer, and she had these dance moves that were kind of famous. So when she did her handprints, she had to do her footprints at the same time.
So right here, you got Marilyn Monroe‘s handprints and footprints. And it’s just one of those little things that you don’t really think about unless you’re here. But yeah, there it is, Marilyn Monroe‘s star.
So, baby ghoul, what do you think about that star? Not as exciting as you thought it would be? Yeah, I know the feeling. But it’s still a cool thing to see.
Now, there’s one more place we’re going to visit today, and it’s actually a pretty special place. It’s the Westwood Memorial Park Cemetery, and that’s where Marilyn Monroe is buried.
So we’re going to head over there, and I’ll show you where she’s buried. And it’s actually a pretty interesting story because when she died, there was a lot of controversy surrounding her death, and there were rumors and speculation about what really happened.
And even today, there are still people who are fascinated by her life and death and come to visit her grave. So let’s head over there and check it out.
Okay, so we’re here at the Westwood Memorial Park Cemetery. And this is where Marilyn Monroe is buried. Now, her grave is actually pretty easy to find because it’s marked with a big marble plaque that says “Marilyn Monroe”.
Now, when she was initially buried here, she was in a crypt in the mausoleum behind me.
But in 1992, her remains were moved to a different location within the cemetery.
Now, her grave is actually pretty simple. It’s just a flat marker with her name on it, and it’s surrounded by a little fence. And people come here all the time to leave flowers and pay their respects.
Now, there’s something interesting about her grave. If you look closely, you’ll notice that there are lipstick kisses all over the marker. People come here and kiss the marker as a way of showing their love and admiration for Marilyn Monroe.
And it’s become a tradition that’s been going on for years. So you can see there are kisses all over the marker, and it’s a little bit faded and worn because it’s been kissed so many times.
So that’s it, baby ghoul. That’s our tour of Marilyn Monroe sites in Hollywood for Valentine’s Day. It’s been a fun day, and it’s always nice to pay tribute to one of Hollywood‘s most iconic stars.
I hope you enjoyed it too. Happy Valentine’s Day, baby ghoul.
